Police accused a man of pointing a shotgun at two men and chasing them down a West Ashley street yesterday.

Gregory Whitehair, 54, of Dotteres Run, was charged with pointing a firearm at a person. Two men who work for an auto windshield servicing company went to his home for a job, Charleston police said, when Whitehair threatened to shoot the men for being on his property.

He chased them at least 300 yards while pointing a shotgun at them, an incident report said. When police showed up and talked to Whitehair he “had the odor of alcoholic beverage” and admitted he’d been drinking, according to the report. He told police he “was defending his property and had every right to hold a gun,” the report stated.

A judge set a $10,000 personal recognizance bond, but Whitehair remained at the Al Cannon Detention Center in Charleston County at 3 p.m., according to jail records.
