Charleston RiverDogs hitting coach Greg Colbrunn, a Mount Pleasant resident and 13-year veteran in Major League Baseball, was hired today as hitting coach for the Boston Red Sox.

Colbrunn, 43, will serve as hitting coach for the big-league club, assisting new Red Sox manager John Farrell.

“Greg’s success as a hitting coach and his experiences as a Major League player make him a strong addition to the Red Sox coaching staff,” Farrell said.

Colbrunn has spent the past six years with the RiverDogs, five as hitting coach and one season (2010) as the team’s manager. He hit .289 in 992 games over 13 seasons in the big leagues, winning a World Series title with the Diamondbacks in 2001.
