The Red Cross announced Wednesday that it will close the emergency shelter it established after 42 residents were displaced in an apartment fire Monday evening.
Four people stayed at the shelter at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in North Charleston on Monday and Tuesday nights. The rest of the residents roomed with family and friends, a news release said.
The fire broke out at Delta Oaks Apartments shortly before 5 p.m. Its cause is still under investigation, North Charleston Fire Department spokeswoman Bianca Sancic said.
The damaged building had 14 apartments. No injuries were reported in the blaze, Sancic said.
Red Cross volunteers will continue to work with families to provide money, food and clothing, the release said.
