North Charleston police are investigating an armed robbery that happened at the Clarion Inn and Suites early Tuesday morning.

Police responded to the inn at 3640 Dorchester Road shortly before 3 a.m., spokesman Spencer Pryor said.

The hotel’s clerk told police she saw a man’s reflection as he walked from the back hallway toward the front desk.

Once at the desk, the man pointed a pistol at the woman and demanded money, Pryor said.

The woman gave the man the money in the front register, and the man also took a safe from the hotel before fleeing the scene, Pryor said.

The woman locked herself in a room and called police, Pryor said.

The woman described the suspect as a black man, 5 foot, 8 inches, to 5 foot, 11 inches tall, between 20 and 30 years old, and wearing a black hoodie with writing on the front, possibly the word “South.”
