Non-human organs wash up on Folly Beach

Organs that washed up on Folly Beach early today are not human, said Charleston County Deputy Coroner Dottie Lindsay.

According to a news release from the Folly Beach Public Safety Department, officers responded to a 9:40 a.m. call about an organ found on the beach near 5th Street West. Officers collected the material for analysis.

A similar call came in at 12:05 p.m. about an organ found on the beach near 6th Street West. That organ was found by a family that was digging for shells, the release stated. The material also was collected.

Folly Beach officers contacted both the coronerís office and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

Lindsay was not able this evening to identify the type of animals from which the organs came.
