Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo committed to play in the 2013 Carolina Challenge Cup set for Feb. 16-23 at Blackbaud Stadium. The field includes the Chicago Fire and Vancouver Whitecaps of the MLS and USL Pro’s Charleston Battery for the round-robin tournament.
Houston played in the event in 2006 and 2007, winning both times. The Dynamo will take on the L.A. Galaxy for the MLS Cup on Dec. 1.

The College of Charleston softball team signed four players for 2013-14. The class features Katie Padilla, a middle infielder from Corona, Calif.; Brianna Davis, a third baseman from Simpsonville; Sam Martin, a pitcher from Tallahassee, Fla.; and Kayla Hall, an outfielder from Cornelius, N.C.
