Christopher David Beasley, a 2011 graduate of Fort Dorchester High School and International Baccalaureate diploma recipient, has accepted an appointment to attend the Air Force Academy and was sworn in as a member of the Class of 2016 on June 29.

He was sponsored by the Academy to attend Marion Military Institute in Alabama for one year prior to his Academy appointment.

Beasley is the son of retired Lt. Col. David and Michele Beasley and the brother of Lauren Beasley.

Air Force Airman Cedric W. Grant graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Grant is the son of Patricia Grant of Johns Island.

Army Pvt. Dallas B. McLendon has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, first aid and Army history. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses.

McLendon is the son of James and Gemma McLendon of Mount Pleasant.

He is a 2009 graduate of Wando High School.

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Mary D. Jones graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Jones is the daughter of Shearl Jones of North Charleston.

She is a 2005 graduate of West Ashley High School.

Morrison is the son of Annette and Leroy Morrison Jr. of Hollywood.

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Jason R. Pope, son of Pamela J. Silvers of Folly Beach and Jason R. Pope Jr. of Folly Beach, recently reported for duty with Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron 18, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan.

Pope is a 2010 graduate of James Island Charter High School.

Civilian Emmanuel R. Drew, son of Jackie Drew of Charleston and Sherman Drew of Ridgeville, recently enlisted in the Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C.

The program allows recruits to enter the Navy and take up to one year to complete prior commitments such as high school. Using recruiters as mentors, this program helps recruits ease into the transition from civilian to military life.

Drew will report for active duty to undergo basic training at the Navy’s Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.
