Academic Magnet High, School of the Arts alter admissions process for 2013-14 school year
Students applying to Academic Magnet High and School of the Arts in North Charleston for the 2013-14 school year will go through a slightly different admissions process than those in the past.
Officials changed the procedures at both county-wide magnet schools in an effort to make the processes fairer, and they say the tweaks won’t negatively affect the quality of either school’s programs or students.
The deadline to apply to both schools is Dec. 7.
Academic Magnet will require all students to take the ACT Explore test, and a score of 85 percent or better on that exam will be assigned the same point value.
School of the Arts has eliminated an essay, altered its teacher recommendation requirements, and changed the information judges will see when evaluating students.
