The Citadel football coach Kevin Higgins has been named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award, given annually to the top coach in FCS.

Higgins led the Bulldogs to a 7-4 overall record and 5-3 finish in the Southern Conference, after The Citadel went 4-7 and 2-6 last season.

Picked to finish eighth out of nine teams, the Bulldogs ended up in a three-way tie for fourth place with wins over SoCon tri-champs Georgia Southern and Appalachian State.

Higgins is 38-51 in eight years at The Citadel.

The Robinson Award, named for the ex-Grambling State coach, will be presented to the winner at the FCS Awards Banquet on Dec. 17 in Philadelphia.

There are 20 finalists for the award, including Coastal Carolina’s Joe Moglia.
