One College of Charleston student killed, another injured crossing Crosstown

A College of Charleston student was killed and her companion hospitalized while trying to walk across the Crosstown against the green light early this morning, according to Charleston police.

The two women were hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee about 2:30 a.m. on the Crosstown at Coming Street, police spokesman Charles Francis said.

A 21-year-old woman was killed and the other woman taken to a hospital with what appeared to be a broken ankle.

The Jeep driver had the right of way, did not contribute to the accident and remained at the scene until police arrived, Francis said.

The Charleston County Coronerís Office has not yet released the identity of the woman who was killed.
