Two teenage brothers were killed when their Jeep ran off the road and hit a tree in Berkeley County this morning.

Matt Richardson, 19, played high-school football for the Hanahan Hawks. Kelvin Richardson, 17, was a junior. They lived in the Wando community.

At least a dozen people have expressed their condolences on Twitter today. Several students encouraged others to wear red to school Monday in honor of the Richardson brothers.

Their father is a pastor, the Rev. Tony Richardson, according to the notice from W.M. Smith McNeal Funeral Home. Their grandmother, the Rev. Victoria Richardson, is also a pastor.

Matt Richardson worked at Sweet Bay and was the father of a baby girl.

Matt Richardson was driving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee north on Cainhoy Road about 10 a.m. today when it left the road and hit a tree, Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury said. Both died of blunt-force trauma at the scene, he said.

The brothers were the only passengers, and neither appeared to be wearing seat belts, although the accident is still under investigation, according to the Highway Patrol.
