Truck wreck snarls I-95 traffic near Walterboro
An overturned tractor trailer snarled northbound traffic on Interstate 95 near Walterboro for more than seven hours this morning.
A truck hit a guard rail and overturned shortly after 5 a.m. at the McLeod Road overpass just north of Walterboro, according to the Highway Patrol and rescue workers.
The cab was smashed, but the driver managed to escape without injuries, according to Colleton County Fire and Rescue Chief Barry McRoy.
A passing truck hit a dislodged fuel tank, spilling diesel fuel on the bridge and road. A state road crew covered the spill with sand.
The north lanes were shut down, and traffic was routed around the mess.
The road reopened about 12:30 p.m., according to Highway Patrol Cp. Bob Beres. The incident remains under investigation.
