Evansville edges Stingrays 2-1

Evansville, Ind. — South Carolina defenseman Ryan Turek scored his first goal of the season in a losing effort Saturday night as Evansville edged the Stingrays, 2-1, at Ford Center.

The loss dropped the Stingrays to 5-8-0-1.

The IceMen (3-9-0-1) jumped on the board first when forward Josh Beaulieu tipped a pass past the left leg of Stingrays goal-tender Ryan Zapolski (19 saves on 21 shots) at 18:05 of the first period.

Turek tied the contest unassisted at 4:23 of the second frame, blasting a shot past the stick of IceMen netminder Rob Madore (31 saves on 32 shots) from the right-wing point. Beaulieu reclaimed the lead for Evansville with an unassisted goal at the 9:52 mark.

The Stingrays fired 17 shots in the third period and generated several great chances late in the game, but could not solve Madore. The Stingrays ended the contest 0 for 8 on the power play, while the IceMen went 0 for 3.

The Stingrays continue their season-long, six-game road trip today against the Toledo Walleye at 5:05 p.m. at Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio.

The Stingrays return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday against the Florida Everblades at 7:05 p.m. for Salute to Heroes Night with local EMS, fire and police departments.
