Fire inside a West Ashley apartment set off sprinklers throughout the entire building early this morning, forcing some 36 people from their homes.

Charleston and St. Andrews fire departments responded to the fire call at 1850 Magwood Apartments, Apartment 321, at 12:06 a.m.

Charleston Fire spokesman Mark Ruppel said firefighters did a great job containing the fire to the one apartment and evacuating all 36 apartments. No one was injured, he said.

American Red Cross volunteers moved 13 of the residents to a shelter at Grace on The Ashley Baptist Church. The others stayed with friends and family.

Anyone who wants to make a donation can do so with the American Red Cross at (843) 764-2323 ext. 368, or by going to www.LowcountryRedCross.org.
