New committee formed to look into Revenue breach

COLUMBIA — A new state Senate committee will look into the massive breach of an S.C. Department of Revenue database.

Anderson GOP Sen. Kevin Bryant and Ware Shoals GOP Sen. William O’Dell will serve as co-chairmen of the panel.

The committee was formed by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Hugh Leatherman, R-Florence, Bryant said.

Officials are set to release more information on the committee later today.

Bryant said Leatherman gave committee members no constraints.

“It’s totally wide open ... he wants us to look under every rock,” he said.

Bryant said the committee will focus on how the breach happened and what the state needs to do going forward.

The committee could hold its first meeting after Thanksgiving, he said.
