False fliers aim to mislead about election day

Someone stuck false fliers inside a West Ashley grocery store saying that high turnout means all Democrats will need to vote Wednesday, not Tuesday.

That’s false — South Carolina’s polls are open for all voters from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow — and Democratic leaders are upset, calling it just the latest example of secretive forces trying to tamp down their turnout.

“It is repulsive to see this kind of last minute attack,” Charleston County Democratic Chair Richard Hricik said today.

Several of these fliers were found inside Doscher’s Food Store on Savannah Highway, right next door to the county’s Democratic headquarters.

Hricik praised Doscher’s manager for getting rid of the false fliers and spreading the word about them. It’s unclear if similar fliers appeared anywhere else.
