A man and woman were found dead in a Summerville home Wednesday, and authorities are investigating whether a generator is to blame.

The two were found inside the single-story, red brick house at 113 Lenwood Drive, which is in the Twin Oaks subdivision between Old Trolley and Miles Jamison roads.

Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet identified the man as 31-year-old Eric Scott Yates and the woman as 31-year-old Kristina Marie Smith.

He said the cause of death is unknown but that it was not from natural causes.

The Summerville Police Department is investigating and had not determined if the man and woman lived in the house, Capt. Jon Rogers said.

He said the house had no electricity and a generator was inside.

Nisbet said he thinks that neighbors had been complaining about the generator and that “apparently, it was moved inside the home.”

He said the generator “may be what caused the death of both people” but that he would do autopsies this morning to determine the cause and manner of death.
