Harvest Festival: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 3. Mullet Hall Equestrian Center, Johns Island. The event will feature a crafter market, children’s activities, bluegrass and more. Also featured is a barbecue cook-off between local restaurants. No outside food or beverages permitted. Admission is $5, or free for children 12 and under as well as Gold Pass holders. Holiday Festival of Lights Gingerbread House Competition: Entries due Nov. 5. James Island County Park. Contestants will compete for prizes, with the top three entries in each category displayed in park locations during the Holiday Festival of Lights. Holiday Festival of Lights Fun Run and Walk: Nov. 7 and 8, 6:30 p.m. each night. James Island County Park. Retractable leashes, bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades and scooters are not permitted. Online registration ends the day before each event, unless sold out prior. All runners or walkers must register by 5:30 p.m. on race day. Tickets will not be available for purchase at the park. Fee: $12/$15 on the day of the event.
23rd Annual Holiday Festival of Lights Grand Opening Celebration: Nov. 9, 6:30 p.m. James Island County Park. Kick off the 2012 Holiday Festival of Lights season. Free with your regular Holiday Festival of Lights admission. The Holiday Festival of Lights is open nightly Nov. 9-Dec. 31. Call 795-4386.

Nov. 2-4: Harvest Festival Trail Ride at Mullet Hall Equestrian Center. Noon Friday-noon Sunday. Bring horse, camping gear and supplies for two nights of camping and trail riding on 20 miles of wooded trails. Pre-registration required by noon Nov. 2. Nov. 2: Explore Your Parklands: Explore Old Towne. 1-4 p.m. All participants must register in advance for this program. This remarkable 67-acre property neighbors one of the most significant sites in the state, Charles Towne Landing. A registered and paid chaperon is required for participants ages 15 and under. Age: 9 & up. Fee: $6/$5 CCR Discount.
Nov. 3, 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, 28: Early Morning Bird Walks at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. 8:30 a.m.-noon. A chaperon is required for participants ages 15 and under. Fee: $5/Free for Gold Pass Holders.
Nov. 3: Get Fit with Fido: Paws and Pose Doga Class at James Island County Park. 9-10 a.m. Regular practice brings greater flexibility, good health and peace of mind for you and your dog. All dogs must be on a leash; no retractable leashes. Pre-registration is required. Age: 18 & up. Fee: $15/$12 CCR Discount.
Nov. 3: Fairy Houses at Palmetto Islands County Park. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Check in at our registration table to receive your building permit and materials, and then start creating your own little dwelling. Free, with regular park gate admission
Nov. 3: Introduction to Climbing: Climbing 101 at James Island County Park. 1-4 p.m. This class is designed to introduce you to the world of climbing. Age: 14 & up. Fee: $30/$25 CCR Discount
Nov. 8: Home School Days: Nature Journaling at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. 10-11:30 a.m. Learn basic drawing exercises and techniques and develop your observation skills while having fun exploring the great outdoors. Pre-registration is required. Age: 4-10. Fee: $5/$4 CCR Discount.
Nov. 9: Folly Beach Bird Walks at Lighthouse Inlet Heritage Preserve. 8:30-10:30 a.m. This walk focuses on the northern shoreline and maritime forest of Folly Beach. A registered chaperon is required for participants ages 15 and under. Age: 12 & up. Fee: Free, however pre-registration is required.
Nov. 10: Parent and Child Trips: Charleston Harbor Sea Kayak. 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Enjoy a tandem kayak excursion starting from Sunrise Park to nearby beaches with views of historical Fort Sumter. Registration is required. A registered and paid chaperon is required for participants ages 15 and under. Age: 8 & up. Fee: $34/$28 CCR Discount.
