A North Charleston man told police he was shot and robbed in a home invasion early Tuesday.

The robbed man heard someone knock on the door of his Carlton Street home about 4 a.m., North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.

When he opened the door, a man he did not know claimed he was trying to get away from someone who attempted to rob him, Pryor said.

The robbed man described the suspect as a tall, skinny black man with light facial hair and wearing all black.

The victim told police the suspect pushed his way into the apartment, pulled out a gun and shot him in the groin.

Then, the suspect took $50 from the man’s pockets and ran away, Pryor said.

The victim was taken to Medical University Hospital for treatment, Pryor said.
