Tenants searching for a house to lease don’t tend to scout new homes. Indeed, there aren’t that many homes for rent that are just built or restored.
Every so often an exception arises, though. Consider 1823 Rifle Range Road. Constructed close to 50 years ago, the house had fallen into disrepair. The new owners took time to fix up the property and now are renting it out for the first time. In other words, the tenant will wind up with a practically new home near Seaside Farms.
“When we bought it, (the house) was in really bad shape,” says Linda West, who with husband Gene West purchased the property in early 2012. “No one had lived there for years.” Plumbing, electrical fixtures, heating, ventilation and air conditioning units all needed to be replaced. “We left behind a façade basically,” West says.
Her husband, she says, “has spent hours since January tearing out and putting back together.”
The three-bedroom, two-bath home — which also showcases a one-bedroom mother-in-law suite — is for lease for $1,950 a month. The house is available now with a year’s lease.
Interior appointments in the one-story residence include a living room, great room and dining area, which is connected by a hallway to a laundry. Hickory cabinets accentuate the large kitchen. Across from bedrooms and baths are linen closets. The guest suite, complete with bedroom, bathroom and walk-in closet, is on the opposite side of the house.
Spotlighting the front yard is big oak tree near the front porch. In back is a deck with built-in grill. The house also comes with a garage.
A key attraction is the location, “It’s four minutes to the beach,” she says, noting that the Isle of Palms connector is a short distance north. “You can see Rifle Range from the house,” she says. A privacy fence and buffer area back up to Magnolia Woods Drive at Seaside Farms Estates. The property is situated on just more than two-thirds of an acre.
Linda West says a few people have looked at the house to rent. One possible tenant is living with in-laws, another has a daughter who wants space for herself.
Meanwhile, the Wests are moving forward with a second residence in a duplex style in the same basic property.
“People are looking for smaller rentals in Mount Pleasant,” she says.
The house for lease is close to Seaside Farms Estates. Heading north, take U.S. Highway 17 past the Interstate 526 merge. Go about a mile and make a right on Venning Road. Take a left on Rifle Range and proceed about a half mile. Next to Magnolia Woods Drive is the entrance. Ahead is 1823 Rifle Range Road.
