Clemson board to meet Monday, Clemson likely closing in on next athletic director
CLEMSON - The Clemson board of trustees and compensation committee are scheduled to meet Monday.
The compensation committee is set to hear a “personnel recommendation” from president James Barker, according to an agenda of the meeting.
Barker has the power to hire and fire university employees but certain high-dollar contracts must be approved by board members.
The meetings are related to the athletic director search, according to sources.
The meetings indicate Clemson is closing in on hiring the program’s next athletic director.
The search began in August when Clemson athletic director Terry Don Phillips announced his retirement. Barker is seeking an AD who can create new revenue sources at Clemson.
Kansas State athletic director John Currie has interviewed for the position according to Tigerillustrated.com.
Florida assistant AD Mike Hill withdrew his name from consideration last week.
Houston Texans president Jamey Rootes and Rick Greenspan were reportedly contacted by Clemson but each publicly stated they were not interested in the position.
