McKissick wins his 600th career game

SUMMERVILLE — Summerville coach John McKissick earned his 600th career victory tonight after a 37-21 victory over Ashley Ridge.

Ashley Ridge school officials expect a crowd of 12,000 fans as the Green Wave (6-4, 4-0) battles the Swamp Foxes (3-7, 2-2).

The crowd started arrived two hours before kickoff and fans from both schools tailgated on a cloudy night that may eventually include rain.

Ashley Ridge is coached by Kenny Walker, a longtime assistant at Summerville who coached the Green Wave junior varsity team until Ashley Ridge opened five years ago. He came to Ashley Ridge as the golf coach and was named football coach two years ago.

Ashley Ridge opened to ease congestion at Fort Dorchester and Summerville high schools, and many teachers moved from Summerville to Ashley Ridge, including Swamp Fox athletic director Bobby Behr and Tee Newman, who led Summerville to its only state championship in basketball in 2008.

All the local television stations are doing live remotes. The Associated Press is covering the game and ESPN is expected to do a segment on College Game Day on Saturday.

Summerville concludes the regular season next week with a home game against No. 5 Bluffton, which is undefeated entering tonight's game.
