SUMMERVILLE, S.C. -- Berkeley County sheriff’s deputies were swarming around a store on North Main Street Friday night after a person was shot and wounded.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dan Moon said the shooting was a result of an attempted armed robbery.

He said a female employee at the Dollar General store was shot shortly after 9 p.m. Bystanders said the woman was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies had marked off the area around the store with bright, yellow, crime-scene tape and were using a tracking dog to try to find a possible suspect.

Authorities had no description of the suspect, other than that he is a male, Moon said.
