Authorities catch one man, end search for another after chase on I-95
Authorities captured one man in an Orangeburg County woods but ended the search for another after they said the pair led them on a 95 mph-hour chase on Interstate 95 this morning.
A Charleston County Sheriff’s deputy patrolling the interstate as part of the tri-county Interstate Crime Enforcement Team attempted to pull the suspect vehicle over in the northbound lanes near mile marker 77 about 8:20 a.m. but the Ford Taurus station wagon kept going, Dorchester County Sheriff’s Maj. John Garrison said.
The car came back as stolen out of Charlotte, Garrison said.
The deputy pursued the car on the interstate, at one point passing two State Transport Police officers who were heading toward Columbia. The two officers contacted dispatchers and assisted in the pursuit, spokesman Mike Steele said.
By the time they caught up to it, the car had pulled over at the 98 mile marker and the two men bailed out and ran toward the woods near Santee.
Police dogs tracked one of the suspects down about 10 a.m.
Andres Lavar Fletcher, 28, of Dawson Drive in Chester is charged with failure to stop for a blue light, possession of a stolen vehicle and simple possession of marijuana.
Deputies didn’t have a good description of the second man and ended the search for him when it became clear he had made it into town, Garrison said.
