Deputies plan increased DUI enforcement on James Island on Saturday
The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is planning increased traffic enforcement Saturday on James Island, including DUI saturation patrols and safety checkpoints.
Traffic deputies and members of the Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic Unit will be out in force from 7 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday, particularly in the areas of Folly Road and Riverland Drive, Maj. Jim Brady said.
Motorists travelling in the area are encouraged to be aware of possible pedestrian traffic and drive with caution, Brady said.
The enhanced enforcement is driven in part by the 12th annual Skinful Halloween party, which will take place from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Saturday at Brick House Kitchen, 1575 Folly Road. The event attracts hundreds of people.
Last year, a 25-year-old man was struck and killed by a car while leaving the party. Another party-goer was charged in the collision with drunk driving, authorities said.
