Woman hit by Jeep on Shem Creek Bridge dead
A woman hit by a Jeep on Shem Creek Bridge on Sunday died this morning.
Caroline Catherine Walters, 32, was pronounced dead at Medical University Hospital at 4:29 a.m., Charleston County Deputy Coroner Brittney Martin said.
Walters died from a traumatic brain injury sustained in the incident, Martin said.
Mount Pleasant officers arrived at the Coleman Boulevard bridge Sunday about 12:30 a.m. and saw Walters lying on the street as a crowd gathered around her, an incident report states.
A red Jeep sport utility vehicle was parked in the middle of the street, and a woman and a man were standing next to it, the report states. The man told police that the woman had been driving.
Walters was taken to Medical University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The hospital listed her in critical condition Monday.
No charges have been filed, and the incident is still under investigation, Mount Pleasant police Maj. Stan Gragg said.
