College of Charleston sailing 3rd at SAISA match race, 10th at Hoyt Trophy
The third-ranked College of Charleston coed sailing team placed 10th at the Hoyt Trophy regatta hosted by Brown at the Edgewood Yacht Club in Providence, R.I., and third at the home-hosted SAISA Match Race regatta held over the weekend on Charleston Harbor.
All-American skipper Mac Mace and crew Cory DeCollibus finished sixth in A-Division with 104 points, followed by All-American skipper Ben Spector and crew Ali Blumenthal in 11th in B-Division with 125 points.
MIT (139 points) won the 18-team event with a 14-point victory over Yale (153).
Back in Charleston, Nick Johnstone, Chris Banholzer, Sarah Somes and Brooks Clark placed third at the in-district sloop regatta behind South Florida and Eckerd College, who advanced to nationals.
Charleston beat Clemson and Georgia Tech in the first round-robin to go 2-2, and compiled a 3-1 record in the second round-robin with wins over Eckerd, Clemson and Georgia Tech.
Rifle
Milledgeville, Ga. —The Citadel took second place at the second Southeastern Air Rifle Conference match of the season behind an impressive performance by Robert Jackson, who posted a season-high 577.
N.C. State took first place for the second straight match, scoring 2,312 to edge the Bulldogs, who had a 2,272.
Nathaniel Moy (566), William Wutzer (565) and Franklin Wright (564) rounded out the top four for the Bulldogs.
Julia McCullohs led all Bulldog women at 558. Terri Craig shot 553 and Ashton Byrne 547.
In smallbore, Jackson shot 563.
