Charleston Southern’s Allen, Jones earn Big South honors

Charleston Southern running back Teddy Allen and wide receiver Larry Jones III have earned Big South Conference honors for their performances Saturday in the Bucs’ 31-21 victory over Presbyterian.

Allen was named offensive player of the week by the league on Monday after rushing for a career-high 153 yards and tied a school and Big South single-game record with four rushing touchdowns. He averaged 7.3 yards per carry and rushed for scores of 63, 6, 2 and 18 yards. Jones was named freshman of the week after catching three passes for 73 yards.

Coastal Carolina linebacker Quinn Backus was named the defensive player of the week after recording nine tackles and one sack in a 34-7 victory over VMI on Saturday.
