A man was wounded by gunfire while driving home from a Berkeley County night club early Tuesday morning.

Alvin Jenkins, 55, of North Charleston told deputies he was driving home from a job as a photographer at Club Pluto on Red Bank Road about 4 a.m. when a vehicle sped past him from behind on NAD Road and somebody opened fire, according to the incident report. Jenkins leaned over to get his gun out of the glove compartment and was hit in the left buttock.

The other car turned around and sped toward Jenkins again, and more shots were fired at him. His pickup ended up with two bullet holes in the hood, one in the driver’s door, one in the driver’s side window and one in the fuel tank fill door, according to the report.

Jenkins drove himself to Trident Hospital emergency room for treatment.

He described the other vehicle as a dark-colored small “Toyota type” four-door car.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident as an attempted murder.
