Report: Missing James Island woman found in Florida

A woman who went missing from James Island in March turned up in Florida this week in the company of an accused drug dealer who was carrying about $200,000 worth of jewelry, authorities said.

America’s Most Wanted reported that a viewer’s tip led authorities to John “Tommy” Reardon and his missing girlfriend, 30-year-old Emily Gregoriev of Central Park Road. Reardon was working at a gym, while Gregoriev was working at a bar, the web site stated.

Gregoriev’s family reported her missing after she mentioned plans to travel to Florida in March and then failed to check in with them. Charleston police distributed missing person fliers and America’s Most Wanted featured her case on national television.

It was suspected at the time she might be with Reardon, who skipped out on an April court appearance in Charlotte and was wanted by U.S. Marshals and the Drug Enforcement Administration on a conspiracy to distribute cocaine charge, authorities said.

St. Petersburg police, working with the marshals fugitive task force, located the couple Monday afternoon and took Reardon into custody, police public information officer Mike Puetz said.

Gregoriev told police she was there voluntary and was not in any danger, so she was not detained, Puetz said.

“She was an adult, she was there voluntarily and she appeared to be OK,” he said. “We didn’t have any reason to detain her.”

Reardon had a bag full of jewelry worth an estimated $200,000 when he was found, Puetz said. He told police the jewelry consisted of family heirlooms. Police had no information to the contrary, so the jewelry was placed with his other possessions while he is in jail, he said.

Charleston police have closed their case on the matter now that Gregoriev has been found safe, police spokesman Charles Francis said.

Gregoriev’s sister, Laura Snydal Carey, posted a note on a Facebook page for the missing woman indicating that her parents were flying to Florida to reunite with Gregoriev.
