Second man arrested in Nassau Street homicide

A second man has been arrested in Saturday’s homicide near Line and Nassau streets.

Brandon Lynn Scott, 19, of Line Street, is charged with accessory after the fact of murder, according to Charleston Police Department spokesman Charles Francis. Scott was on probation for a narcotic charge.

Darren Nathaniel Simmons, 23, of Hampden Court was arrested Monday and charged with murder and the possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Simmons was on probation for a burglary charge.

Both men are being held in the Charleston County jail.

Police were called to the scene about 6:15 a.m. Saturday and found Albert Louis Brown, 37, lying on his bicycle on the sidewalk with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Brown’s criminal record included convictions for crack cocaine possession and distribution, trespassing, assault and battery, forgery, shoplifting, carrying a concealed weapon and giving false information to police, according to SLED records.
