One killed, one wounded in North Charleston shooting

A man was shot to death and another wounded in an altercation in North Charleston on Sunday afternoon.

Police were called to 2253 Rebecca St. shortly before 3 p.m., North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said. Both men were taken to Medical University Hospital, where one was pronounced dead and the other was in critical condition.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the man who died as Anthony Watley III, 23, of North Charleston.

The other man’s identity was not immediately released.

The neighborhood is off Rivers Avenue near Interstate 526. A forensics unit and two patrol cars were parked at the scene after the shooting, and several patrol cars were driving through the neighborhood.

Police determined there was an altercation between the two men who were shot and another person, Pryor said. The incident remains under investigation.
