Woman hit by SUV on Shem Creek Bridge Sunday in critical condition
A woman hit by a Jeep on Shem Creek Bridge early Sunday is listed in critical condition.
Mount Pleasant officers arrived at the intersection of Coleman Boulevard and the Shem Creek Bridge about 12:30 a.m. and saw Caroline Catherine Walters, lying on the street as a crowd gathered around her, an incident report said.
A red Jeep sport-utility vehicle was parked in the middle of the street and a woman and a man were standing next to it, the report said.
The man told police that the woman, Jessica B. Cabaniss, was driving when the collision happened.
The man saw the vehicle drive through the intersection while the traffic lights were green, then hit Walters, the report said.
Walters was transported to Medical University Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The hospital listed her in critical condition Monday.
No charges have been filed and the incident is still under investigation, police Maj. Stan Gragg said.
