WISE COLUMN: Vintage trailer to become a restaurant in Charleston

Awendaw-based farmer Tara Derr Webb plans to open Charleston’s first sustainable restaurant out of a vintage trailer in January or February.

The Farmbar will serve a 10-item menu out of a renovated Spartan Landcraft at 1600 Meeting St. on peninsular Charleston.

In addition to indoor seating, the restaurant will include outdoor seating and a lounge area crafted from vintage finds. Menu items will come almost exclusively from Derr Webb’s 4-acre Deux Puce/Two Fleas Farm in Awendaw.

Derr Webb also hopes to simultaneously open a food-centric retail space called Farmbox in an adjacent shipping container.

Opening

Two Summerville businesses will hold ribbon-cuttings Tuesday.

Kim’s Fine Jewelry will snip the ribbon at 5:30 p.m. for its new business at 1216-B N. Main St., and Prudential Southern Coast Real Estate will do the same at 12:45 p.m. for its expanded offices at 112 W. Doty Ave., Suite C. Prudential’s open house follows 1-4 p.m.

Fresh coat

Rapport at 235 King St. in Charleston will launch its expanded fur salon with a grand opening Thursday through Saturday. Look for 25 percent off, refreshments and a fur representative from New York as well as tips on storing, cleaning and restyling fur coats.

The skinny

Derm Clinics, a medical dermatology clinic, is open at 325 Folly Road on James Island.

Pet project

Kilian’s K-9s Mobile Pet Grooming LLC recently opened at 455 Seven Farms Drive on Daniel Island. It is owned by Brad and Kim Kilianand serves the tri-county area.

Blowing in

Charleston’s first blow-dry salon plans to open downtown tentatively by Nov. 1.

Tease Dry Bar, which will offer shampooing and blow-drying only, is a wash, blow and go salon that will not offer haircuts or coloring.

It will be at 430 King St. in the former Princess of Tides children’s boutique, according to co-owner Jessica Buchanan. Her business partner is Louise Lawton.

Getting fit

A new fitness center is coming to South Windermere Shopping Center in West Ashley.

Barre Evolution will take over the 1,500-square-foot space formerly held by Charleston Tuxedo, which moved downtown. The fitness studio will be run by Nancy Meyer and Nicole Wallen. Look for an opening by the end of the year.
