Search on for Clemsons next athletic director
CLEMSON — Clemson president James Barker has begun conversations with candidates in his search for Clemson’s next athletic director.
Barker said there is no clear timetable when the position will be filled.
“We are not rushing through a process to complete it without being very thorough,” Barker said prior to Clemson’s football game against Virginia Tech on Saturday.
“We are finding the interest level to be such that we need to be not only thoughtful, but we have a lot of people to screen and talk with.”
AD Terry Don Phillips’ contract expires in June. Phillips announced his retirement in August but will continue in his role until a new AD is hired.
Clemson reportedly contacted Houston Texans president Jamey Rootes — a former Clemson soccer player — and Rice AD Rick Greenspan, who both publicly stated they were happy in their positions. Carolina Panthers president Danny Morrison has also said he is content in his current position.
Barker said a key element he is seeking in a candidate is the ability to generate new revenue.
