Pregame update: Clemson president Barker addresses AD search
CLEMSON - Clemson president James Barker told the Post and Courier before Saturday’s game vs. Virginia Tech that he has begun conversations with candidates in his search for Clemson’s next athletic director. Barker said there is no clear timetable when the position will be filled.
Barker said the only deadline is when AD Terry Don Phillips’ contract expires in June. Phillips announced his retirement in August.
Barker said there has been tremendous interest in the position and he will not have the ability to speak to every person who has reached out to the search committee.
Clemson reportedly contacted Houston Texas president Jamey Rootes - a former Clemson soccer player - and Rice AD Rick Greenspan, who both publicly stated they were happy in their positions.
Barker said a key element is identifying a candidate who has proven the ability to generate new revenue streams.
Rodriguez ready for his run: War veteran and walk-on player Daniel Rodriguez will lead the Clemson team down the hill today while carrying the U.S. flag. Rodriguez has a number of friends and family in attendance today.
Weather conditions: Mostly sunny. High of 71. No chance of rain.
Injury report: Clemson is reporting no new injuries. Virginia Tech starting center Caleb Farris is expected to miss the game with an ankle injury.
Other notes: Virginia Tech linebacker Bruce Taylor is from Myrtle Beach and he consider’s Saturday’s game a home game. It will be the first time his high school coach, Scott Earley, has seen him play in a college game.
