Police: Man foiled North Charleston robbery by fighting for gun
A man in North Charleston successfully fought off his would-be robber, who fired a parting shot Wednesday as the victim made his escape, he told the police.
Around 5 p.m., officers from the North Charleston Police Department were called to the 3800 block of Dorsey Avenue, which is near the Dorchester Road interchange with Interstate 526.
The man told the authorities he had been sitting in his parked vehicle when someone walked up, pointed a silver-colored handgun and demanded money. He refused to fork over any cash. Instead, he grabbed the gun.
After struggling with the robber, the man managed to drive off. The robber fired his pistol into the air before running back toward his home. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the two knew each other, but police spokesman Spencer Pryor said a suspect had been identified.
Officers are still were searching for the suspect, whose name has not been released. He’s wanted on a charge of attempted armed robbery.
