A North Charleston couple pointed fingers at one another after they fought over a knife, soaked themselves in bleach and threw a brick through a car window in a domestic dispute that left police stumped as to who started it, authorities said.

Police arrived at a Luella Street apartment shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday and spoke with 29-year-old Nastassia Geneen Sumter.

Sumter, who was covered in bleach, told police she was assaulted by her 20-year-old boyfriend, Daniel Christopher Wright Jr.

Wright lives with Sumter, and the couple got into a fight when he packed his belongings to leave their home, an incident report said.

Sumter told police that Wright picked up a knife in their bedroom and threatened her.

Thinking Wright might stab her, Sumter told police, she fought until she was able to disarm him.

Then, Sumter said, Wright grabbed a bottle of bleach and tried to pour it on her, the report said. The couple then fought over the bleach, causing it to spill on both of them, the report said.

Wright ran away from the scene, police said. Sumter told officers she chased after him in her vehicle and, at one point, he threw a brick at her rear window.

Police saw no injuries on Sumter, but said her clothes were soaked in bleach.

Police tracked Wright to a home on Nesbit Avenue. He told police that Sumter attacked him with a knife, and dumped bleach on him, not the other way around.

Wright said that when he tried to leave, Sumter tried to run him over with her vehicle, prompting him to throw a brick at it, the report states.

Police saw no injuries on Wright, but his clothing was also soaked in bleach.

Police said they could not find any witnesses to corroborate either one of the couple’s stories.

Unable to determine an aggressor, police arrested Sumter and Wright and charged them with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

They were taken to the Charleston County jail and released after posting $2,505 bail each, court records show.
