Week 8: SEC football Best and Worst - Top 5 includes Johnny Manziel, Jimmy Legree, BCS Standings; Bottom 5 includes, of course, Gene Chizik

Top 5

- Manziel Mania. The most exciting player in college football, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel merits hefty Heisman consideration with Tim Tebow-like numbers. Against Louisiana Tech or not, an SEC-record 576 yards of total offense is ridiculous.

- The Hatter. Typical Les Miles, goofy play-calling decisions and a nail-biter victory over South Carolina.

- Jimmy Legree. Beaufort High School graduate vaults from struggling safety in 2011 to All-SEC cornerback candidate in 2012.

- BCS standings. Respect for the SEC gives four teams – Alabama, Florida, LSU and South Carolina – a legit BCS Championship Game shot.

- Tyler Wilson. Have to hand it to the Arkansas QB injured and maligned earlier this season: 5 TD passes and no interceptions in the 49-7 rout of Kentucky.

Bottom 5

- Gamecocks vs. the run. Jadeveon Clowney called out his teammates and South Carolina’s most aggressive play at LSU featured Kelcy Quarles throwing a punch.

- Second division. Five SEC teams have been outscored (Vandy, Kentucky, Auburn, Missouri and Arkansas).

- Auburn. A 41-20 debacle at Ole Miss drops Gene Chizik and Co. to 1-5. Ex-Tigers head coach Pat Dye let loose on the Paul Finebaum show: “We haven’t been through this with Terry (Bowden) or Tommy (Tuberville),” Dye said. A loss at Vandy on Saturday, and Chizik might not last until Sunday.

- Two that got away. LSU’s Sam Montgomery of Greenwood is SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week (two sacks vs. South Carolina) and Tennessee wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson of Rock Hill is an SEC Special Teams Player of the Week (197 all-purpose yards vs. Mississippi State).

- Kentucky attendance. An SEC-low 74.1 percent of capacity for home games. At best.
