BEAUFORT — The Beaufort County School District is installing video cameras on all of the district’s 166 schools buses.

The Beaufort Gazette reports that http://bit.ly/XlpOE the board of education approved an almost $260,000 contract for the cameras on Tuesday.

The move comes after the mother of three elementary school children said her children had been bullied on the bus and that cameras could help determine who is responsible and deter future incidents.

Three cameras, which also have audio recording capabilities, are being installed on each bus — one in front, one in back and one in the middle. The cameras will also be used to monitor bus drivers.

The cameras will be used as soon as they are installed, instead of waiting until all district buses are outfitted.
