Cab crashes through North Charleston pet store window
A taxi driver crashed through a plate glass window at a North Charleston pet store this morning.
Nobody was in the store when the cab crashed into the Petco at 5900 Rivers Ave. about 7 a.m., North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.
Thomas Coaxum III, a driver for North Area Taxi, told police his brakes failed. He was cited for careless operation, Pryor said.
The cab went over a covered sidewalk before hitting the glass. The taxi took out a section of glass about 10 feet wide in the dog-training area of the store, kept going about 20 feet and came to rest against the back wall, according to workers repairing the damage this afternoon. No animals were in the room at the time, according to staff.
The store was open for business today.
Some Petco stores keep cats in cages against the front windows, but the North Charleston store keeps cats in cages along a wall instead. Employees said none of the animals in the store were injured in the accident.
