WISE COLUMN: Mannys Mediterranean Cafe to open 4th restaurant in downtown Charleston
Manny’s Mediterranean Cafe has picked downtown Charleston for its fourth location, owner Michael Stavrinakis said.
Manny’s plan to open in mid-November in an 1,100-square-foot space at 41-B George St. that formerly housed Patat Spot. It will be open seven days a week.
The other Manny’s are in North Charleston, West Ashley and Statesboro, Ga.
Dollar development
Dollar General continues to expand. It’s planning another store for 4741 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston.
Another is coming to Awendaw at Sewee Road and U.S. Highway 17.
The flourishing discount store based in Goodlettsville, Tenn., has about three dozen stores in the greater Charleston area. It plans to open 625 new stores this year.
Vintage move
Saint Sampson, the new home and style boutique and gift shop in Mount Pleasant, now has a couple of other businesses under its roof.
Mary West of Mary T. West Jewelry and Dina Walker of Sterling Silver Tradition have moved their businesses from the Southern Accent Designer Showcase multivendor store, also in Mount Pleasant, to set up shop in Saint Sampson at 414 Live Oak Center off Coleman Boulevard.
West and Walker specialize in vintage and estate jewelry and estate sterling silver.
Odds and ends
Mi Xao, a Vietnamese takeout restaurant, recently opened at 1055 S.C. Highway 41 in the Station 41 Center in Mount Pleasant. ...West Ashley has a new place to fix smartphones and related devices. The iDoctor, owned by Rocky and Jenny Corbett, opened recently at 1734-B Savannah Highway near Morris Nissan. It specializes in repairs for iPhones, iPads, iPods, screens, password resetting and cellphone unlocking. The shop also buys and sells used devices. ... A red wagon will be set up in all four Wonder Works toy stores for two weeks starting today to accept donations of new children’s crew socks and trial-size deodorant.
The campaign is part of the movie “Little Red Wagon,” which is showing Friday. It’s based on a true story about a child’s journey to raise money and awareness for homeless kids. The movie was partially filmed in Charleston, including Wonder Works.
