Two adults were shot and a 7-year-old child was injured by broken glass Saturday night after someone fired at least a dozen shots into two Colleton County homes, authorities said.
The shootings happened at 9:11 p.m. at 210 and 212 Enterprise Street, Sheriff George Malone said in a statement. The homes are located just outside of Walterboro city limits.
A man and woman inside the mobile home at 212 Enterprise Street were both shot in the legs, Colleton County Fire and Rescue Director Barry McRoy said.
Leon Bennett, 48, was flown to Medical University Hospital with multiple gunshots to his leg while Latoya Washington, 36, and her daughter were taken to Colleton Medical Center, Malone said.
McRoy said authorities initially believed the girl had been shot, but it turned out she was cut in the face by broken glass after her mom pushed her to the ground to protect her from the gunfire.
Malone said the victims had been watching television when the gunshots pierced their home and the home next door. No one inside the other home was injured.
The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (843) 549-2211.
