On Oct. 25, the College of Charleston will host Chiavari Day, a cultural celebration of the Northern Italian Riviera that includes vintage cars, a Grammy Award winner and food.

The event is open to the public. A donation of $10 is suggested.

Starting at 4:30 p.m., vintage Ferrari, Maserati and Fiat cars will be on display in front of Physicians Auditorium. At 5 p.m., the Italian Studies program will host three Ligurian guests, who will each showcase their expertise. Chef Luca Mangiante will prepare a sampling of regional dishes such as Genovese pesto with gnocchi and farinata.

Artisan Carlo Repetto will demonstrate his talent with paper crafts.

In a student workshop, professor Silvana Badano will speak about the rich architecture and intriguing history of Genova and Chiavari.

At 5:30 p.m., College of Charleston graduate Jessica Bruce will recount her study-abroad experience in Chiavari and show photos from her trip.

Following that presentation, there will be a musical performance by percussionist and four-time Grammy Award winner Glen Velez and world-renowned clarinetist Nina Stern, who performed in the Orchestra della Scala of Milano.

This event is in partnership with Bacco Restaurant in Mount Pleasant and the Dino Olivetti Foundation of Boston. For information, contact Mike Maher at mahermj@cofc.edu or Massimo Maggiari at maggiarim@cofc.edu.
