Police investigating body found outside North Charleston post office
A man was found shot to death Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of a North Charleston post office.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Kareen Wylder, 30, of North Charleston and said he died of a gunshot wound that did not appear to be self-inflicted.
The death is being investigated as a homicide. An autopsy is planned today.
The body was discovered in the passenger’s seat of a black SUV outside the U.S. Postal Service branch on McMillan Avenue shortly before 5 p.m. The incident closed the Pinehaven branch for several hours.
North Charleston police did not say if Wylder was shot at the scene or somewhere else. Nor did they say who owned the SUV or why the man might have been inside.
Neither the coroner’s office nor the police department would say if Wylder was shot more than once.
Police blocked off the post office with yellow crime scene tape. Dozens of people, including the victim’s family members, watched while the body was loaded into a white van behind a red sheet. Red biohazard stickers were placed on the windows of the SUV before it was carried off on a tow truck.
Police removed the crime-scene tape about 7:30 p.m.
