Pinewood Prep wins third straight girls SCISA golf state title
Like the first and second time, the third time also was a charm for the Pinewood Prep girls golf team.
The Panthers won their third straight SCISA state championship with a 330-414 victory over Hammond on Monday at the Orangeburg Country Club.
The players were challenged by not only the 18 championship holes but also unseasonable cool temperatures and rainy conditions.
“They played well considering the conditions,” Pinewood coach Greg Baechtle said.
“It was very cold, and there were a couple of periods where there was heavy showers.”
Baechtle said the third title is just as special as the first and second.
“We never get tired of winning,” he said. “The girls worked hard. They were out there in June and July when it was 100 degrees so they deserve to have good results.”
Wilson Hall claimed third with 434, Hilton Head Christian was fourth with 443 and Ashley Hall fifth with 454.
Pinewood’s Katelyn Dambaugh was medalist with a 71 to help her team cap a 19-0 season.
“She’s going to the University of South Carolina,” Baechtle said. “She’s signing in November and will probably step in and play from the beginning.”
Reona Hirai shot a 73. The rest of the team included ulia Whitten Olivia Coyle and Michaelea McAuley.
