AT A GLANCE: Djokovic, Azarenka claim titles in China

BEIJING — Top-seeded Novak Djokovic extended his perfect record at the China Open when he defeated third-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France 7-6 (4), 6-2 in the final Sunday.

On the women’s side, top-seeded Victoria Azarenka won her fifth title of the year by dominating second-seeded Maria Sharapova 6-3, 6-1. It was the third time this year Azarenka beat Sharapova in a final after victories at the Australian Open and Indian Wells.

Djokovic has won the tournament on all three occasions he has entered, defeating Marin Cilic in the 2009 final and David Ferrer in 2010. He has a 14-0 record.

The Serb has won 65 matches this season, the most by anyone on the ATP Tour. Djokovic also has four titles in 2012, including the Australian Open.

Azarenka raced to a 4-0 lead in both sets with Sharapova managing to hold her serve only twice in the match.

In Tokyo, eighth-seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan beat Milos Raonic of Canada 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-0 to win the Japan Open.

Spithill wins America’s Cup World Series stop
SAN FRANCISCO — Jimmy Spithill of Oracle Racing rebounded from last place at the start of the Super Sunday fleet race finale to win the America’s Cup World Series San Francisco championship.

Spithill and his crew fought their way back through the fleet for a 17-second win over Oracle’s other team, skippered by Russell Coutts.

Ethiopian sets course mark at Chicago race
CHICAGO — Tsegaye Kebede of Ethiopia set a course record in winning the Chicago Marathon. Kebede pulled away late, crossing the line in 2 hours, 4 minutes, 38 seconds.

Atsede Baysa of Ethiopia won the women’s race by one second in 2:22:03.
