Summerville to sell historic Berry House
SUMMERVILLE — The town plans to sell the historic Berry House alongside Azalea Park.
The Town Council decision ends months of debate over what to do with the 19th century home, known to history buffs as the Teacherage. It was bought by a previous council for $700,000 just before the recession tumbled housing prices.
The home, not really large enough for the venue hall it was proposed to be, instead became a huge white elephant as maintenance costs rose.
Council today authorized Mayor Bill Collins to talk with real estate agents about potential listing prices.
