South Carolina Gamecocks ranked No. 3 in Associated Press poll, highest ranking since 1984

COLUMBIA – South Carolina moved from No. 6 to No. 3 in the Associated Press poll Sunday, a day after beating fifth-ranked Georgia 35-7 for a school-record 10th consecutive win.

It is the Gamecocks’ highest ranking since they were No. 2 for one week in 1984, before they lost at Navy. Their only other appearances in the top five – two weeks at No. 5 in 1984, right before they reached No. 2.

USC this week travels to LSU, which fell from No. 4 to No. 9 after losing at Florida on Saturday. The Gators moved from No. 10 to No. 4. They play at Vanderbilt this week and host USC next week.

The Gamecocks are 6-0 for the third time ever. They started 9-0 in 1984, before losing to Navy, and 6-0 in 1988.

USC-LSU will air at 8 p.m. Saturday on ESPN.
