Officials identify woman found in Mount Pleasant pond
An autopsy was completed Thursday on the body of a woman found floating in a Mount Pleasant pond, but authorities said the cause of death has not been determined.
The woman, whose body was found Wednesday off Marsh Grove Avenue, has been identified as 51-year-old Charlotte Small of Mount Pleasant, said Charleston County Deputy Coroner Scott Ramsey.
Autopsy results are expected in about eight weeks.
About 5 p.m., a witness called 911 to report seeing something that appeared to be a human body in the water, police said. When rescuers arrived, they saw a body, floating face down, wearing a white nightgown.
The pond is near the Old Village Landing and Salt Grass Pointe neighborhoods off Center Street.
Divers retrieved Smallís body about 6:45 p.m. and put her into a coronerís van. Mount Pleasant Police Capt. Stan Gragg later issued a news release saying there were no obvious signs of trauma.
Ramsey and Gragg said the investigation into Smallís death continues.
